Applying Eyeshadow: Basic Tips

October 21, 2012 Posted in: Beauty Tips

Eyes are an important physical feature, and applying eyeshadow can help enhance your overall look.

Sure, you may have used eyeshadow before, but do you really know how to apply it correctly? Eyes are one of the first features people notice about you when you talk to them, so it’s important to keep them looking fresh and their very best. Using eyeshadow is a great way to enhance the beauty of your eyes, and to leave you feeling more confident. Here is a beauty tip of the day about applying eyeshadow so you can put your best face forward.

Get the Basic Supplies

Before you start to apply your eye shadow, you’ll need a few basic supplies, including:

• A mirror
• Foundation
• Concealer
• Eye Shadow
• Powder brush

You don’t necessarily have to buy the most expensive products, try the cheaper ones first so you can test it out. The cheaper products may even meet your demands, and you won’t have to upgrade to the more expensive stuff.

Eye shadow is available in various forms, including creams, powders and liners. If applying eyeshadow is new to you, start with a powder that can be applied by hand. When choosing a colour, look for a shade that will compliment your natural skin tone and facial features. If you want to be more fun with it, you can also find a colour that matches your outfit on a special night out. The colour of eyeshadow is a personal choice, just make sure you don’t go overboard with the colour or channel Mimi from the Drew Carey show.

What not to do when applying eyeshadow.

The First Step to Applying Eyeshadow

Lay a base foundation down over your eye, and gently apply the foundation to each eye while you have them closed. Once you’ve smoothed it in and done both eyes, use concealer to cover any blemishes around your face and eyes. After you are done with the foundation, apply the eyeshadow to your eyes.

The Next Step when Applying Eyeshadow

Once you have finished with the eyeshadow, move onto your eyelashes. If your eyelashes aren’t made up and your eye makeup is, this could throw off the entire look. Use an eyeliner that matches with the eyeshadow and you should have a very cohesive look.

Applying eyeshadow isn’t a too difficult of a process and is not very time consuming, but it does require some basic knowledge. You can also call Absolutely Fabulous Urban Spa and book an appointment with one of our wonderful makeup artists, and they will show you how to apply it or answer any questions you might have. We use Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup, which is a top-of-the-line product that is very good for the skin.
